Three rums with grapefruit and cinnamon, layering bold tropical flavors.

  • Jamaican Rum

    Jamaican dark rum

    45 ml / 1.52 US fl oz
  • Gold Rum

    Puerto Rican gold rum

    45 ml / 1.52 US fl oz
  • Demerara Rum
    30 ml / 1.01 US fl oz
  • Lime Juice
    20 ml / 0.68 US fl oz
  • Falernum
    15 ml / 0.51 US fl oz
  • Grapefruit Juice
    10 ml / 0.34 US fl oz
  • Cinnamon Syrup
    5 ml / 0.17 US fl oz
  • Grenadine
    5 ml / 0.17 US fl oz
  • Angostura Bitters
    1 dash
  • Pastis

    Pernod anise spirit, not 6 dashes

    6 drops

US fl oz amounts are rounded; use ml for exact measures.

To garnishMint sprig

Make it

  1. Pour the ingredients into a blender and add about 170 grams of crushed ice.
  2. Pulse briefly for a few seconds and pour into a tall glass, ice and all.
  3. Garnish with mint, if you like.

Behind the drink

Created around 1934 by Donn Beach in Hollywood. The bar is said to have limited each guest to two.

Checked against the IBA recipe. Donn's Mix is split into grapefruit juice and cinnamon syrup; this is a different recipe from the juice version.
