Behind the drink
Often said to have become popular at Pat O'Brien's in New Orleans in the 1940s. The hurricane glass takes its name from an old-fashioned storm lantern.
Recipe reference
Proportions follow the original recipe as recorded by Difford's (rum, passion fruit syrup and lemon juice 2:1:1), scaled to one drink; the original uses a single Jamaican rum, here split between white and dark rum.
