Pickleback

A small pour of whiskey with a small glass of pickle brine on the side; the salty tang softens the burn.

  • Whiskey

Irish whiskey is the usual pick

    45 ml / 1.52 US fl oz
  • Pickle Brine

    In a separate small glass

    45 ml / 1.52 US fl oz

US fl oz amounts are rounded; use ml for exact measures.

Make it

  1. Pour the whiskey and the pickle brine into two separate small glasses.
  2. Sip the whiskey first, then follow with the brine.

Behind the drink

It started in 2006 at the Bushwick Country Club in Brooklyn, with brine from McClure's pickles stored in the bar's basement.

Recipe reference

Per PUNCH's oral history and Wikipedia: a shot of liquor with a shot of pickle brine. Neither gives exact amounts, so 45 ml reflects a standard US shot.
