Tequila Sunrise

Grenadine sinks to the bottom, like a sunrise slowly brightening in the glass.

Ingredients

  • Tequila
    45 ml / 1.52 US fl oz
  • Orange Juice
    90 ml / 3.04 US fl oz
  • Grenadine
    15 ml / 0.51 US fl oz

US fl oz amounts are rounded; use ml for exact measures.

To garnishOrange slice

Make it

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice, pour in tequila and orange juice, then stir.
  2. Slowly pour grenadine down the inside of the glass, letting it sink to the bottom. Do not stir.
  3. Place half an orange slice on the rim.

Behind the drink

The modern recipe originated at the Trident bar in Sausalito, California, in the early 1970s. It rose to fame as a favorite of the Rolling Stones during their 1972 tour.
