Salty Dog

A salt rim softens grapefruit's bitterness and brings out its sweetness.

Ingredients

  • Salt

    For rimming the glass

    1 pinch
  • Vodka
    45 ml / 1.52 US fl oz
  • Grapefruit Juice
    90 ml / 3.04 US fl oz

US fl oz amounts are rounded; use ml for exact measures.

To garnishSalt rim, Grapefruit slice

Make it

  1. Moisten the outside of the rim with a little grapefruit juice and dip it into a saucer of salt.
  2. Fill the glass with ice and pour in vodka and grapefruit juice.
  3. Stir gently and garnish with a grapefruit slice.

Behind the drink

The earliest recipe currently found dates to 1962 and uses vodka and grapefruit juice. Remove the salt rim for a Greyhound.
